Stacey, Tess and I decided to grab a drink and catch up at our friendly
neighborhood bar, Georgie’s Alibi. We went on a Sunday night and as
usual, there were drink specials galore. We started off with their
strong $3 special Long Island Iced Teas and then decided some bar food
was in order, so we got their stuffed olives ($6) and fried green beans
($5.50). The olives were served with sour cream and the green beans
were served with ranch dressing. I especially liked the green beans,
because even though they were breaded and fried, I felt like they were
still a healthier alternative to French fries (denial, I know).
We stayed on for dinner and Stacey ordered the Black Angus burger with
cheese, bacon and a side of fries ($9.50), which she said was better
than most of the burgers that she has had at bars. Tessy ordered the
Club Combo with shrimp salad ($8.50), which was served with a side of
potato salad, cole slaw, tomato wedges, sliced cucumber and two
tortilla pieces of bread. She said that the shrimp salad was really
good and described it as a light summer dish.
I continued my quest to drink high calorie, but eat low calorie, and
ordered the pasta salad ($6.50). It came in a wooden salad bowl filled
with rainbow rotini pasta, crisp veggies, shredded cheese, and tossed
with fat free Italian dressing. Pasta salad always reminds me of
college and is one my comfort foods and Alibi did it well.
Alibi has not only “bar food,” but also some healthier choices,
including salads and fresh soups. They also have a large variety of hot
and cold sandwiches, and big meals like bbq baby-back ribs, catfish and
hushpuppies and a grilled steak platter are just a few options. If you
are a burger person, you have a lot to choose from, including the kind
of meat you want. In addition to Black Angus, they offer Buffalo,
Ostrich, Turkey, Salmon and Veggie burgers.
Alibi has a reputation as being a place where friends gather and eat
and drink and that night, as usual, drew a crowd. After a couple more
drinks and some more gossip, we headed out on our way.
